Unapologetically Embracing Autism: There's a Rumbling a Coming!!! Celestial Events and Their Impact on Our Special Needs Children
There's a Rumbling a Coming!!! Celestial Events and Their Impact on Our Special Needs Children
Time Change: 3/9
Full Moon: 3/14
Mercury Retrograde: 3/14-4/7
Add tequila to my cup
And as fellow autism mom Kimmesha Flowers aptly commented:
“Total lunar eclipse, partial solar eclipse, spring equinox and Saturn's rings went missing. We in for some shit!"
As a special needs mom, I've learned to measure my days not just in hours, but in coffee cup sizes. And if you're familiar with the viral "Special Needs Mom" Starbucks cup meme, you know exactly what I'm talking about! Some days are "Tall" days with manageable routines and smiles. Other days? We're in full "Venti" territory with sensory overloads and meltdowns that seem to last forever.
But what happens when the universe decides to throw its own version of a meltdown?
The Cosmic Connection
On my personal Facebook page and as a member of Black Autism Moms (B.A.M.), I recently posted about the upcoming "perfect storm" of celestial and time-related events. When I shared this information, fellow autism mom Kimmesha expanded on it, noting even more cosmic phenomena happening all at once. Between us, we highlighted something many special needs parents have observed: our children with autism seem particularly sensitive to environmental changes that many neurotypical people might not even register.
Here's what I've noticed:
The Bigger Cosmic Picture
As Kimmesha pointed out, we're not just dealing with the time change, full moon, and Mercury retrograde. There are also:
- Total lunar eclipse: Known to intensify emotional responses
- Partial solar eclipse: Often associated with unexpected changes
- Spring equinox: A major seasonal transition point
- Saturn's rings "going missing": An astronomical phenomenon that adds to the cosmic chaos
These celestial events might seem disconnected from our daily lives, but many parents in our community have noticed correlations between these cosmic happenings and changes in our children's behavior patterns.
Seasonal Transitions: More Than Just Wardrobe Changes
The spring equinox isn't just the official start of spring…it's a major transition point that can affect our kids in significant ways:
- Routine disruptions: Daylight saving time changes, different clothing sensations, new seasonal activities
- Sensory shifts: Different sounds (birds, increased outdoor activities), smells (blooming plants), and visual stimulation (brighter days, more vibrant colors)
- Barometric pressure changes: Many children with autism report heightened sensitivities to weather changes
When Multiple Changes Collide: The "Special Needs Mom" Coffee Days
When multiple events hit at once (like the upcoming time change, full moon, AND Mercury retrograde all happening in March), plus all the additional cosmic events Kimmesha mentioned, it's not surprising that many of us are bracing ourselves. As my post suggested, we might need to "add tequila to my cup" - because we know we're not just facing "Tall" or even "Venti" days ahead - we're in full "Special Needs Mom size" territory!
Practical Strategies for the March Mayhem
Just like we prepare for known triggers, we can prepare for this upcoming triple-threat of time change, full moon, and Mercury retrograde:
1. Prepare for the time change (3/9): Start adjusting bedtimes by 10-15 minutes a few days beforehand
2. Create visual schedules: Help your child understand upcoming seasonal changes
3. Maintain consistent routines: During major transitions, double down on predictability in other areas
4. Prepare sensory supports: Have favorite calming tools readily available
5. Adjust expectations: Sometimes, recognizing that we're in a "Venti" day allows us to approach challenges with more patience
The Humor That Keeps Us Going
Like the Starbucks cup meme that perfectly captures our coffee needs based on our parenting challenges, finding humor in our journey is essential. Some days, we're handling things just fine with our "Tall" coffee. Other days, we need that "Special Needs Mom" size with its "After Day!!??!! savings price!" because, let's face it, parenting a child with special needs during all these cosmic events definitely requires extra caffeine - and maybe even "adding tequila to my cup" as I jokingly suggested! Or as Kimmesha bluntly put it, "We in for some shit!" Sometimes, that raw honesty among autism parents who truly understand is exactly what we need.
Community Check-In
I'm curious: Have you noticed changes in your child's behavior during celestial events? Do you find yourself needing a bigger coffee cup during these times? Share your experiences in the comments below!
Remember, whether you're having a "Tall" day or a "Special Needs Mom" day, you're not alone in this journey. Sometimes the universe might throw us some cosmic chaos, but together, we can navigate the stars and find our way.
*Dedicated to all the special needs parents who measure their days in coffee cups and their strength in the smiles of their extraordinary children.*
